Living Life With God Through A Pandemic!

(By Julie Adams)

Well, it’s been nearly a year now that we’ve been watching the announcements; the numbers, deaths, infection rates, how many people we can meet; Christmas or no Christmas; schools closing, exams cancelled, exams back on again; babies born, loved ones sick, weddings cancelled; furloughed, not furloughed; church closed, open, closed again; travel cancelled; students locked in accommodation, etc, etc.

Well, I don’t know how I could have done this year without having God in my life. It’s certainly been interesting.

When I’ve just about had enough God is there saying keep going.

When I’m at breaking point God is in the toilet, the only place I can talk to him alone.

When I’m awake in the night he’s awake too.

When I think “how can I possibly do 3 more months of this?” God is there saying, “of course you can and more.”

God gives me the strength I need every day to live. He is my everything and he is there for everyone, if you want him.

Psalm 18:2

The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God my rock in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

The Secret by Ralph Cushman (1879-1960)

I met God in the morning when my day was at its best,

and his presence came like sunrise like a glory in my breast.

All day long the presence lingered, all day long he stayed with me

and we sailed in perfect calmness o’er a very troubled sea.

So, I think I know the secret learned from many a troubled way,

you must seek him in the morning if you want him through the day!

House of God Forever (song by Jon Foreman, adapted from Psalm 23)

God is my shepherd

I won’t be wanting, I won’t be wanting

He makes me rest

In fields of green, with quiet streams

Even though I walk

Through the valley, of death and dying

I will not fear

‘Cause You are with me, You are with me

Your shepherd’s staff comforts me

You are my feast in the presence of enemies

Surely goodness will follow me, follow me

In the house of God forever

God is my shepherd

I won’t be wanting, I won’t be wanting

He makes me rest

In fields of green, by quiet streams

Even while I’m walking

Through the valley, of death and dying

I will not fear

‘Cause You are with me, You’re always with me

Your shepherd’s staff comforts me

You are my feast in the presence of enemies

Surely goodness will follow me, follow me

In the house of God forever
