Psalm 23 – Prayer and Praise

(By Elsa Day)

Paul: Last Sunday evening should have been our regular first Sunday “Prayer and Praise” Service. Elsa was due to lead this, so she has written the following in the style of this service…

The Lord is my Shepherd I shall not want ….

The first line of the 23rd Psalm. Maybe you want to shout… “That’s all very well but I can’t get a supermarket slot!… I want to see my Grandchildren! I want to hug my Children!”

And so the list goes on…

As for me, I miss Church so much. The ‘Zoom’ experience is so good!

Compared to King David who wrote these lines though, my life and your life are easy.

He was hunted by another king (Saul) trying to kill him for years.

Living as an outcast he had to face so many trials, yet, the Lord brought him through.

So, when David talks of walking through the shadow of death and being unafraid because he knew the One who knows the future, and this kept him strong at all times.

We could then dismiss this, thinking, “Well, he was special to God.” Yes, he was, yet amazingly, no more special than you.

He wasn’t that good, if you read 2 Samuel Chapter 11 you will see why…which of us has committed murder, using his power to get his own way. He repented and his love for God never changed.

Oh! He wasn’t perfect, yet, God’s plan for his life never altered.

How many of us are asking “what is God saying in all that is happening right now?”…I asked the question when I got the second letter telling me I had another 12 weeks of lock in to endure. I do believe that God is in all this and going through it all with us.

His purpose is not that clear to me. Yet there is a purpose, God is allowing this, and we all need to learn what He is teaching us.

There have been some amazing answers to prayer… so keep on praying.

Lean on Him when you are depressed, when you are worried about work.

This is so real for so many… Remember He is the Great Healer; He is Love, all Love.

Above all, TRUST HIM, for nothing is impossible to God. He is God and Lord of all.

David reminds us. One day we shall be with Him, in a place He has prepared for us.

A Prayer

Heavenly Father we just need your strength at this time

We need your eyes to give us understanding

We need your mind to give us wisdom

We need your heart to give us courage

We need All of You to give us Love

Father Son and Holy Spirit.

Thank you, Lord.

Praise you, Lord, for all you mean to each one of us. Amen.

In Heavenly Love abiding, no change my heart shall fear

and safe in such confiding (confidence) for nothing changes here.

The storm may roar without me, my heart may low be laid,

but God is round about me, and can I be dismayed?

Wherever He may guide me, no want shall turn me back;

my Shepherd is beside me, and nothing can I lack.

His wisdom ever waketh, His sight is never dim

He knows the way He taketh, and I will walk with Him.

Green pastures are before me, which yet I have not seen;

bright skies will soon be o’er me, where the dark clouds have been.

My hope I cannot measure, my path to life is free,

My Saviour has my treasure and He will walk with me.
